അങ്ങനെ ബേക്കൽ ഫോർട്ടിൽ വീണ്ടും പോയി  ഒരിക്കൽ പോയിരുന്നു പത്തു വര്ഷം മുൻപ് ആദ്യം ശ്രദ്ധയിൽ പെട്ടത് neatness ആണ് എത്ര ഭംഗി ആയി സംരക്ഷിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു ചെങ്കല്ലിന്റെ നടപ്പാതകൾ  കഴുകി വൃത്തി ആക്കി ഇട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു ഇത്ര ക്വാളിറ്റി ഉള്ള ചെങ്കല്ലുകൾ  കാസർകോടിന്റെ മാത്രം സ്വന്തം പൂന്തോട്ടങ്ങളും നന്നായി നിൽക്കുന്നു വൃത്തിയാക്കുന്നതാണോ അതോ വൃത്തികേടാക്കാൻ സന്ദർശകർ ആരും വരാത്തതോ അധികം ആൾക്കാരെ ഒന്നും ഞാൻ അകത്തോ പുറത്തോ കണ്ടില്ല

 ഞാൻ ചെല്ലുമ്പോൾ രാവിലെ ടിക്കറ്റ് കൌണ്ടർ തുറക്കുന്നതെ ഉള്ളു 50  രൂപ നോട്ടു കൊടുത്തു 15  രൂപയുടെ ടിക്കെട്ടിന് ഉടനെ വന്നു ഹ്രസ്വമായ മറുപടി ചില്ലറ ഇല്ല ബാക്കി തിരിച്ചു വരുമ്പോൾ തരാമെന്നോ ടിക്കെട്ടിൽ കുറിക്കാമെന്നോ എന്നൊന്നും പറഞ്ഞതെ ഇല്ല ഞാൻ പറഞ്ഞു അപ്പോൾ ഞാൻ  എറണാകുളത്തിന് തിരിച്ചു പോയിട്ട് വന്നിട്ട് ...അങ്ങേർക്കു കാര്യം മനസ്സിലായി പോയി കണ്ടോളൂ തിരിച്ചു വരുമ്പോഴേക്കും ചില്ലറ സംഘടിപ്പിക്കാം  സത്യത്തിൽ ഞാൻ അദ്‌ഭുതപ്പെട്ടു പോയി ഇവിടെ എറണാകുളത്തൊക്കെ ആണെങ്കിൽ അങ്ങേരു പറയുക എന്നാൽ നീ ഇനി ഇതിനകത്തു എന്നെങ്കിലും കേറുന്നത് എനിക്കൊന്നു കാണണം എന്നായിരിക്കും

dumdum . russia signs big business deals with india. so the hate is gone and love is back. good . though it took a long time for russia to get back to india . and a circuitous route . with a brief stop in pakistan.  

good that india and russaia hug again. though it proves yet again that money is the key. who lost or who gained in the bargain is not important right now. but the fact that india bargained tough remains. keeping usa just outside the court. throwing gleeful glances  at regular intervals. and sharing a few intimate moments. that is a welcome change in tactics. for a nation two is not more for number of suitors.

the highlight is that the media was caught napping. they got  nothing at all of what was in store. and that is the story normal for media india.

conversely india can take credit for keeping it all well wrapped up. to be frank, could be silly , the biggest improvement in india is in its dealing with countries. modi needs to be applauded. though his detractors fail to see the change or opt to look the other way.


dumdum . kerala minister resigns on charges of nepotism . that he could prove his mettle in about 100 and odd days is surprising to the common man. but  the story is slowly getting clearer. it is faction fight yet again in the party. central leadership is determined to free the kerala unit from the clutches of the kannur lobby .  and it gets support from who is who of cpm in kerala . that calls for speculation, not celebration.

at the face of it job for a relative or two in  the govt overlooking merits is not a big thing.  that was the norm till yesterday. for the all the parties. the  change is welcome. but not the way it is used to settle scores in intra party feuds. kannur lobby , which is now being disowned by everyone , was not long ago the mainstay of the party in kerala. and the sacrifices of these unsophisticated comrades made to grow the party and protect it at all crucial junctions thereafter can be ignored only at great cost to the party. bengal is an example . it was the internal feuds that brought down cpm in bengal .  but the lessons the party learned from bengal , it seems , is to replicate bengal elsewhere.

or look at the congress party. it was internal fights which brought its govt down at the centre. and destroyed the party . can any one think of a party which makes some one a minister for 4 years and sends him to jail thereafter.  the surprising similarity with the cpm in kerala is disturbing. the message any party which sacrifices its minister at the drop of a hat , sends across is loud and clear. too naive to perform.  or too sophisticated to put faith on. 

dumdum. stray dog issue gets murkier in kerala. the one who says he will get the stray dogs away from the streets and protect them in his own farm is dragged to the court. no clue. just like the original law which the social development minister at the centre quotes often to prod the state govt to punish those who killed stray dogs which attacked and killed human beings all over the state . probably posterity will have a hearty laugh on this piece of strange legislation .

പ്രതിപക്ഷത്തെയല്ല പേടിക്കേണ്ടത് അവരെ പേടിച്ചിട്ടും കാര്യമില്ല അവരുടെ  ഒച്ചയടപ്പ് നീണ്ടു നിൽക്കുന്നതാണ് ഈ ഒരു മുരടനക്കൽ ഇന്നത്തേക്ക് മാത്രം

ഇരുപതു പേരടങ്ങുന്ന ടൂറിസ്റ്റ് ഗ്രൂപ്പ് പോണിയേരി പോരിൽ ബഹളമുണ്ടാക്കി ദാ ഇപ്പോൾ നാല് പേരെ പോലീസ് അറസ്റ്റ് ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു . ഗാർഡുമാരെ കയ്യേറ്റം ചെയ്തതിന്.

സ്ത്രീകളും കുട്ടികളും ഉള്ള ഈ ഗ്രൂപ്പിൽ ആരോ മദ്യം ഒളിച്ചു കടത്തി പോണിയേരി പോരിൽ വച്ച് സേവിക്കുന്നതു ഗാർഡുമാർ കണ്ടുപിടിച്ചു . അവരെ പിടിച്ചു കൊണ്ടുവന്നു ഗെയ്റ്റിൽ നിർത്തി പോലീസിനെ വിളിച്ചു . പോലീസ്സ് വരുന്നതിനു മുൻപ് ഇവർ രക്ഷപെടാൻ ശ്രമിച്ചു . ഗാർഡുമാർ തടഞ്ഞു . അടിപിടി ആയി. രണ്ടു കൂട്ടർക്കും നന്നായി പരിക്കേറ്റു .

മദ്യം അരുത് എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞിട്ടുണ്ടെങ്കിൽ അവിടെ അത് ഉപയോഗിക്കാൻ പാടില്ല. തികച്ചും ന്യായം . പക്ഷെ അങ്ങനെ ഒരു തെറ്റ് ചെയ്തു പോയാൽ എന്താകാം  മാക്സിമം ശിക്ഷ ?  . പിടിച്ചു വച്ച് ആക്ഷേപിക്കുക . സ്ത്രീകളും കുട്ടികളും അടങ്ങുന്ന കുടുംബാംഗങ്ങളുടെ മുൻപിൽ വച്ച് . അടിച്ചു സൂപ്പാക്കുക . അവസാനം പോലീസിനെ കൊണ്ട് പിടിപ്പിക്കുക. രണ്ടു വർഷമെങ്കിലും നീണ്ടേക്കാവുന്ന കേസിൽ കുടുക്കുക .

കൊമേർഷ്യൽ ബ്രേക്ക് ആയിട്ട് സ്വന്തം അനുഭവം പങ്കു വയ്ക്കാം . തൃപ്പൂണിത്തുറ റെയിൽവേ സ്റ്റേഷനിൽ കാർ പാർക്ക് ചെയ്തു . കുംബശ്രീയുടെ പാർക്കിംഗ് കൗണ്ടറിൽ നിന്ന് അസാരം ദൂരെ ആണ് ഇടം കിട്ടിയത് . ഒരു പത്തു സെക്കന്റ് കാത്തു . ആരും വന്നില്ല .  കുടുംബശ്രീ മഹതി ടിക്കറ്റ് കൗണ്ടറിനു മുൻപിൽ തടഞ്ഞു . എന്തെ ടിക്കറ്റ് എടുത്തില്ല ? ഞാൻ പറഞ്ഞു നിങ്ങൾ വന്നില്ല . അതൊന്നും പറ്റില്ല . ടിക്കറ്റ് എടുക്കണം. അതായത് കൗണ്ടറിൽ വന്നു ടിക്കറ്റ് എടുത്തു ഏകദേശം  200 മീറ്റർ തിരിച്ചു പോയി ടോക്കൺ കാറിൽ വച്ച് തിരിച്ചു വരണം  എന്ന് . ഞാൻ പറഞ്ഞു ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടാണ് തിരിച്ചു വരുമ്പോൾ തന്നോളാം . മഹതി സാമാന്യം നന്നായി ഉപദേശിച്ചു പൗര ബോധം വേണം വയസ്സായാൽ മാത്രം പോരാ .  ഞാൻ പറഞ്ഞു നന്ദി പക്ഷെ ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടാണ് ഇപ്പോൾ ടിക്കറ്റ് എടുക്കാൻ . കാറിന്റെ അടുത്ത് നടന്നു പോയി ടോക്കൺ അവിടെ വച്ച് തിരിച്ചു വന്നു ക്യുവിൽ നിന്ന് യാത്ര ടിക്കറ്റ് എടുക്കുന്നത് വരെ  തീവണ്ടി  കാത്തു നിൽക്കാൻ സാധ്യത ഇല്ല .  അപ്പോൾ കുടുംബശ്രീ ചോദിച്ചു  കാറിന്റെ കാറ്റഴിച്ചു വിട്ടാൽ  താൻ എന്ത് ചെയ്യും ? ഞാൻ സ്റ്റേഷൻ മാസ്റ്ററുടെ അടുത്തു നിന്ന് complaint book വാങ്ങിച്ചു . എഴുതുന്നതിനു മുൻപ് ട്രെയിൻ വന്നു . email ൽ  complaint  ചെയ്യാം എന്ന് കരുതി . അല്ലെങ്കിൽ local circle ലെ consumer complaint section ൽ post ചെയ്യാമെന്ന് . ഒന്നും നടന്നില്ല . ഇപ്പോളാണ് പിന്നെ ആ കാര്യം ഓർക്കുന്നത്

അപ്പോൾ കാര്യത്തിലേക്കു തിരിച്ചു വരാം . ഈഗോ ആണോ പ്രശനം ? assert ചെയ്യാൻ ആകെ കിട്ടുന്ന അവസരം ആണ് പൊയ്‌പോകുന്നത്‌ ഈഗോ എങ്ങനെ മുറിയാതിരിക്കും ?

പൗരബോധം ആണോ ? ഇത് കൊണ്ടൊക്കെ അല്ലെ രാജ്യം നന്നാകാത്തതു എന്ന വേവലാതിയിൽ നിന്നുടലെടുക്കുന്ന അമിതാവേശം ?

frustration  ?  ഞങ്ങൾ ഇവിടെ നിങ്ങൾ അവിടെ എന്ന class conflict ന്റെ ആദ്യ പാഠങ്ങളുടെ ശേഷിപ്പ് ?

എന്തായാലും moral policing ന്റെ അണുക്കൾ നമ്മുടെ രക്തത്തിൽ നന്നായി പെരുകിയിട്ടുണ്ട് . ഇല്ലാത്ത അധികാരം ഉണ്ടെന്നു തോന്നുന്ന delusion  നമ്മുടെ സമൂഹത്തിൽ പടർന്നിരിക്കുന്നു . ഈ  അധികാരം  ഉപയോഗിച്ച് മാക്സിമം ആൾക്കാരെ ഉപദ്രവിക്കണം എന്ന ഒരു delirious  compulsion നമ്മുടെ സമൂഹ മനസ്സാക്ഷിയെ മൂടിക്കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു

ഇതൊന്നും നേരാവല്ലേ തോന്നൽ മാത്രമാകണെ   എന്ന പ്രാർത്ഥനയോടെ

what pakistan is aiming to achieve by provoking india at this stage is difficult to fathom. that is if pakistan is behind it by design.

but if pakistan is in it by default, explanation becomes easier. pakistan historically had little control over its army and almost nothing over the terrorists it supports clandestinely . if the terrorists chose the target and the time for reasons of their own, pakistan simply had  no option but to say yes and spare its territory and arm it.

alternately if pakistan designed the attack  and chose the time and the target , then their motive could only be to invite reprisal . ensuing clashes will put both india and pakistan under international scrutiny for a long time. which attention  pakistan hopes to divert to kashmir. and keep it alive long enough to stall further deployment of indian army in kasmir.  which india had finally decided as a last ditch option to quell the prolonged riot in kashmir. thereby keeping the kashmir cauldron boiling for some more time. which is probably the only means to intimidate india .

pakistan probably is also banking on the new found friendship with china. china has sunk  a lot of money in pakistan territory along the indian border . in return what pakistan has offered or agreed to is still not clear. but it can't be anything less than matching subservience and support in international forums which china needs badly today. pakistan has thus ensured  china's  support in whatever action it takes against india. 

india on the contrary has not gained anything in recent times in international friendship. in spite of the extensive feel good tours indian prime minister undertook. it is hard to lure nations thru smile and small talk. what is required is solid give and take resulting in mutual benefits of the monetary kind.

as it stands today india has left russia but not reached usa . and it surely is a long way to go before seeing the not so inviting shores of usa. which country is not very keen to hold hands on equal or near equal terms with anyone. india has no other option but  to wait in the high seas hoping for that elusive welcome beacon .

russia on the other hand is aware that there are no new  bridges to be built in india.  old bridges russia built in india still hold but the traffic is dwindling.  russia is probably thinking of jumping over to china for building hand rails if not bridges.

crux of the matter is that india will get pretty little applause if guns go off  on the border. and that seems to be pakistan's gamble. so the only option india has today is not to fall into the military trap pakistan has set.

but india can't afford to grin and bear the insult. talk of diplomatic offensive is  an exercise in self deceit . and an attempt to calm ourselves down . for the time being. which probably is the right response. provided we have the resolve to strike back at a time of our choice . at a level which will be remembered for a long time for its deterrent effect.

the crime punishment merry-go-round

 did crime or punishment come first ? i think punishment. before punishment probably there was no crime . punishment defined crime . and promoted it . one way being retribution against wrong punishment.

 there sure was no crime before punishment came into the scene. it is precisely the punishment process which identified and defined crime. to suit the prevailing circumstances and reinforce the existing prejudices. nothing was a crime before that .
 
 once crime came in its scope grew exponentially. may things got branded crime. dictated precisely by those who had the power of punishment. to define crime to prescribe punishment and to execute the punishment all in one.


 first set of crimes which got defined was probably crime against god. becoz it was easy . then came crime against humanity. now we have crime against the country against animals against nature, who knows, crime against the universe .

 punishment is a slower story. it was not easy. god's punishment was the earliest one. person to person probably the most popular. then came institutions . judiciary , jails , lawyers , executioners. and the system grew into such a complex form that it turned silly. ultimate decisions depended habitually on silly presumptions, unintended interpretations of the written word and so on.

retribution grew side by side. revenge  against wrongs. vengeance against perceived wrongs. crime against imagined injustice. reaction against  real injustice. such a vicious circle now . no one really knows what justice is. so we hand out punishments in  paragraphs torn out of law books. borrowed from the hollow words of our learned middle men in justice.
